How to Apply for a Visa on IremboGov

This service allows one to apply for a visa online. In Rwanda, an entry visa can be applied online or upon arrival for people coming from anywhere in the world. Visa upon arrival can be applied for at the Kigali International Airport and all land borders. This service is provided by the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration (DGIE).

The service’s processing time is 7 days and the price depends on the type of visa.

Follow these simple steps to apply for a visa:

  1. Visit Irembo platform : www.irembo.gov.rw and under Immigration and Emigration, click on

  1. Choose “Visa Application” under the Request Type and Click on Apply.

Note : For applicants who are already in Rwanda and want to extend their stay in Rwanda, please don’t apply for a visa but rather apply for “Renew Visa” service.

  1. Enter the Applicant details .

NOTE : Applicants can choose to pay in United States Dollars (USD) or Rwandan Francs (RWF). The price will depend on the Visa Type.

  1. Enter the Demographic details .

  1. Enter the Request and Travel Details . The Collection Office is automatically set depending on the applicant’s residence details.

  1. Attach all the required documents in the right format and size.
    1. Photo with white background (Format: JPG, Size: 500KB)
    2. Copy of passport Biodata page (Format: PDF, Size: 500KB)
    3. Application letter (Format: PDF, Size: 500KB)

    1. Verify that the information is true, enter a phone number and/or email address , check the verification box, and click Submit .
    2. If the visa applied for is free of charge , the application will immediately be sent to DGIE’s system for processing.
    3. If the visa applied for is NOT a free visa, a billing Number/ID (88…) will be generated for payment, Click Pay.
    4. Applicants choose the mode of payment: offline (Bank of Kigali) or online (Visa or MasterCard). For more information about payment modes, click here .

    NOTE: After applying and successfully paying via IremboGov, the Applicant receives a notification from the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration with the application’s status update.
